  • Quark Express
  • Adobe Indesign
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Power Point

PC

  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop

What do I need to know about PDFs?

If you supply us with a PDF there are a few steps you should take when creating it in your program.

  1. Always choose the highest quality setting. For instance, in Microsoft Word this is Press Quality in other programmes it may just be referred to as Highest Quality.
  2. It is also very important to embed the fonts, this is a simple matter of ticking a check box in your print settings. We have a vast library of fonts but as they do vary it is best if you use the ones supplied with your machine.
  3. Put Trim marks and bleed on your document.

What do I need to know about document sizes?

In house we print documents up to A3 size but we have very reliable trade printers that print up to A0 should it be required. When setting up your document in your chosen program please put in the exact measurements of the required finished size.

  • A3 – 420 x 297mm
  • A4 – 210 x 297mm
  • A5 – 210 x 148.5mm
  • A6 (Postcard) - 148.5 x 105mm
  • Business cards - 85 x 55mm

What is bleed?

When you have colour or an image that goes right to the edge of a page you need to add bleed. This is simply a matter of dragging your image 3mm over the edge of your page so that when we trim the paper there are no white edges left on your finished document.

Bleed image example.

What should I know about images?

Whenever you use pictures (clip art or photographs) use the highest quality possible. A jpeg, tif, bmp or gif etc. should be 300dpi if possible. If you are taking photographs yourself, set your camera to the top quality setting. The lower the quality of the original picture the lower the quality of the printed document. Sometimes an image as low as 72dpi can be used as long as it is not increased from its original size. One of the most common mistakes is lifting pictures from the internet, these are always very low quality and do not transfer well to print.

What is the best way to send you my file?

The easiest way to send us your file is to click on the ‘UPLOAD FILE’ button on our website. Alternatively email us at studio@gpsprintworks.co.uk or if you prefer, pop in and see us with a CD, DVD or memory stick.

Can you do the artwork for me?

Yes, we offer a full design service. For simple typesetting, with you supplying all logos and pictures, the charge is £40 + VAT per hour, something simple e.g. a business card would take about half an hour. If you require specific logos etc. to be recreated or drawn the charge is £65 + VAT per hour.

Can this artwork be used in my website?

Yes we can make this artwork available for your web designer but there may be an admin charge for our time dealing with this person or company. Alternatively we do have a website and database company we work closely with, meaning artwork can be used for both jobs which can reduce your overall costs and provide better continuity between your internet and printed image.

Can you make me a website?

We work closely with a website and database company who can overhaul an existing company website or make a bespoke website for start-ups and private individuals.

Can I see a proof of my job before it is printed?

We will be happy to provide you with a digital proof copy of your document but if you require us to make amendments you may incur a small charge.

How quickly can I have my print job?

When artwork is signed off, digital jobs are usually ready for collection within 24 hours, often on the same day. Litho jobs usually take in the region of 5 working days. Jobs such as presentation folders may take a little longer due to the finishing required.

How much will it cost?

It is impossible to list all prices as there are hundreds of variations to cover. All litho print jobs are quoted individually. We have a minimum charge of £25 on all digital print jobs; See our Price List for more details (All prices are plus VAT unless stated)
